This past weekend, the Oakville Blades proudly took part in the annual Terry Fox Run, joining thousands of Canadians in honouring Terry’s remarkable legacy. Our players and staff came together not only to walk in support of cancer research but also to contribute directly, donating $300 towards this incredible cause.
The Terry Fox Run is one of Canada’s most cherished traditions, held every September in communities across the country and around the world. It all began in 1980 when Terry Fox, a young Canadian who lost his leg to cancer, set out on the Marathon of Hope—a cross-country run to raise money and awareness for cancer research. Although his run was cut short after 143 days and more than 5,000 kilometres, Terry’s courage and determination inspired a movement that continues to this day.
Since its inception, the Terry Fox Run has raised more than $850 million worldwide, funding critical research that has helped save lives and bring hope to countless families. Each step taken, and every dollar donated, helps keep Terry’s dream alive—a world without cancer.
The Oakville Blades are honoured to be part of this legacy. Community is at the heart of who we are, and supporting initiatives like the Terry Fox Run reflects the values of teamwork, perseverance, and giving back that we strive to instill in our players both on and off the ice.
We want to thank our players, families, and fans for their ongoing support. Together, we can continue to make a difference—just like Terry did.
